1. You DON’T want to get injured
The main focus of CrossFit is full-body health and wellness. We stress the importance of strength, flexibility, joint-mobility, and safety during all of our sessions. We are surprisingly specific about teaching the proper technique for all movements, because our other main goal is EFFICIENCY OF MOVEMENT.
Really, you could hurt yourself doing ANY physical activity. But I want the ability to run a 5K without getting a stress-fracture, or play a pick-up game of basketball without spraining my ankle, or play an intense game of Wii Tennis with the grandkids without dislocating my hip.
I guess that any physical movement runs the risk of injury, but MUCH more so if your body is weak, unconditioned, soft, and flabby.
If you join a regular gym, you’re just thrown into a big open room with a bunch of machines and left to come up with something on your own. No proper training or instruction of what works and what doesn’t….unless you want to pay a $30-$60 PER HOUR for a personal trainer.
Which leads me to my next point…
2 . You can’t afford NOT to
CrossFit is way cheaper than one-on-one personal training, and a whole lot cheaper than being unhealthy.
The adult obesity rate in Missouri is 30.4% as of 2013. And you wonder why health insurance premiums are so high.
You may think that $79-99 a month is too expensive for your health and fitness, so let me ask a few questions:
How much did you spend last year on co- pays, prescriptions, over the counter medications, sleep aids, pain killers, and stimulants in the past year?
Or better yet: how much did you spend at the bar last MONTH? Or on fast food and restaurants? Or on unhealthy habits like cigarettes or beer? People spend money on what’s important to them. It’s time for you to reevaluate what is important.
Typical gyms make their money by signing up a bunch of people for a 18-24 month contract, knowing full well that less than a third of those will actually use the facilities regularly. They don’t want you to actually stick around and get healthy and stronger, they just need you to pay your regular monthly bill for two years. That’s been the business model of the fitness industry for far too long.

“I need to get in shape before I start.” This is one of the most common excuses I hear, but also the most ridiculous.
The purpose of any fitness program is to get you in shape. But CrossFit is more specific than any of them in its ability to scale the workouts to anyone’s beginning ability.
Our entire concept is this: we start with whatever your current level of fitness happens to be (even if you think that’s nonexistent), and we work to make you a little bit better every day.
I think some people watch professional athletes, or see the CrossFit Games on TV, and think that’s what we do in here.
That’s like saying: “I can’t shoot a basketball in the driveway with my son or daughter because I’m not as good as Kobe Bryant,” or “I can’t throw a baseball because I’m not Yadier Molina.”
The whole purpose of CrossFit, and the entire reason I decided to bring CrossFit to Sikeston is this: CrossFit is the only program I know of that is specifically tailored to work for ANYBODY who wants to improve their health and fitness.
If you’re 100lbs overweight and you haven’t exercised in 10 years, then CrossFit is the perfect program to get you back in control of your health and well-being.
4. You’re ALREADY in good shape
Now, here’s where it gets really cool! CrossFit is the perfect training program for athletes, and anyone looking to get better at their sport.
Because our program is all about increasing your GPP (General Physical Preparedness).
You almost certainly do an exhausting amount of SPP (Specific Physical Preparedness), and that is precisely what is holding back a lot of athletes that I see; they ONLY do “sport-specific training.”
A baseball player works to strengthen her arm for pitching therefore she is much stronger on her dominant side; a basketball player will run sprints and practice his shooting ability, never does any strength-training; the marathon runner simply runs miles at a time and then wonders why his joints, tendons, and ligaments are always inflamed.
Each of the athletes mentioned above is furthering muscle imbalances in his or her body through sport-specific training.
GPP (CrossFit), on the other hand, strengthens and balances the entire body as a whole, and makes athletes perform better in their sport, and also helps to avoid overuse injury and burnout.
